Ray McConathy, 73, of Burleson died Sunday, April 13, 2008, at his residence. Ray was born March 8, 1935 in Whitney, Texas the son of W. Oscar and Allie Offutt McConathy. In 1953 he graduated from Whitney High School. Following high school, he owned and operated his own gas station in Whitney for a few years. He lived in Arlington for many years before moving to Rendon in 1971. He was first married in 1955 to Charlotte Jo Thomas and she preceded him in death in 1975. He later married Elaine McLaughlin and then Gail Gray, who preceded him in death in 2006. He went to work for Buddies Supermarket which would become Winn-Dixie and spent 25 years there before his retirement in 1984. Ray was good with his hands, there wasn't anything he couldn't build. He also was an avid gardener and of the Baptist faith. Also preceding him in death were his parents; four brothers, Orville, Burl, Lonnie, and Paul McConathy; and three sisters, Hazel Graves, Earline Hornsby, and Maxine Pope. Survivors include his children, Shirley Bristow and husband, Lee, of Burleson, Jay McConathy and fiancee, Lori, of Burleson, and Jennifer May and husband, Bryan, of Granbury; four brothers, Boyce McConathy of Sierra Vista, AZ, Jimmy Guy McConathy and wife, Virginia, of Aledo, Denton McConathy and wife, Laverne, of Whitney, and Francis Pete McConathy and wife, Norma, of Aquilla; three grandchildren, Laura Pelfrey and husband, Dennis, Lacee McConathy, and Jamie Bunton and husband, Eric; a great-granddaughter, Kiley Jo Pelfrey; and a number of nieces and nephews.
