Raymond Nevers

Raymond Jacob Nevers, 82, of Whitney passed away on Sunday, July 22, 2018. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m, Saturday, August 4, 2018, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney with Pastor Shane Metcalf officiating.

Raymond was born on June 14, 1936 to Alexander and Theresa (Mikolyczyk) Nevers. He was raised in Calumet City, Illinois where he played football and basketball at Thorton Fraction Township High School before he graduated in May of 1954. In November of 1954 he entered the U.S. Army where he went through basic and ATT training at Camp Chafee, Arkansas before being deployed to Germany. Ray was honorably discharged in November of 1956 at the rank of E3 PFC and returned to Illinois.

In 1979 he moved to San Antonio, Texas, where he worked for a printing and book binding company. Ray then went on to further his education by attending San Antonio College. He then moved to Irving, TX where he met Janice Marie (Uptmore) Springer and proceeded to get married on May 25, 1996. Together they moved to Whitney, TX in April of 2000, living out some of their dreams of moving to the country and owning a farm. Ray worked part-time at Brookshires Grocery store in Whitney.

His hobbies included golfing, fishing, hunting, and raising miniature donkeys. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and watching football.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Alexander and Theresa Nevers and two sisters, Marssala and Kitty.

Survivors include his wife, Janice Marie Springer-Nevers; daughters, Tracy McHaney, Sheila Farish and Lori Primm; grandchildren, Preston Primm, Brooke Knapp, A.J. McHaney, Andrew McHaney, Brandy De La Garza, Courtney Crook, Logan Patrick; and 5 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for any contributions to be made to the North Central Texas Chapter of the Alzeheimer’s Association, 2630 West Freeway, Suite 100, Fort Worth, Texas 76102.
