Reta was born in Hillsboro as one of a set of fraternal twins, to D. O. (Dude) and Tommie Clinkscales on January 24, 1934. She was reared in the community of Midway, where her family owned and operated a small grocery store and service station. Reta attended Midway school as a young child and later entered Hillsboro schools, where she graduated from high school in 1951. Reta was chosen as Miss Hillsboro in 1948.
Reta married Edwin White on June 8, 1951. The couple’s first home was in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where Mr. White was stationed with the U.S. Air Force. Later, after a second stationing in Moses Lake, Washington, Reta returned to live in Hillsboro briefly while awaiting her husband’s completion of his service with the U.S. Air Force in Japan.
Reta worked with her husband in his business until 2004 when he retired. In 2006, they moved from Hillsboro to Fort Worth near Eagle Mountain Lake, where they currently reside. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Duncanville.
Her family and friends were the center of her life. She was always helping others anyway she could. In her spare time, she enjoyed doing crafts and traveling.
Reta was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, Edwin White; two children, Gail Mitchell and husband, Doug, and Greg White and wife, Cheryl; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild to be born in February 2014.
