Ricardo “Poncho” Gonzales, 54, of Bynum passed Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at Hill Regional Hospital in Hillsboro. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 16, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. Michael McReynolds and Rev. Daniel Lay officiating. Burial will follow at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro. Visitation will be from 6:00-9:00 p.m. Friday, February 15, at the funeral home.

Ricardo was born September 11, 1958 in Hillsboro to Gilberto, Sr. and Rosa (Vasques) Gonzales. In 1978, he graduated from Bynum High School where he played football and was active in FFA. On June 1, 1978, he joined the United States Army where he served as a military policeman and trained to become a truck driver.

After being honorably discharged on May 26, 1981, he married Debbie Markum on November 28, 1981 in Waco. For over 35 years, he was a truck driver before his health forced his retirement. An avid fisherman, Poncho always had stories about the one that got away. He had a big, kind heart and a love for everyone, especially kids. He was a member of Church on The Hill in Hillsboro. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Debbie Gonzales of Bynum; daughter, Sarah Gonzales of Alamogordo, NM; two brothers, Bruno Gonzales and wife, Sheri, of Hillsboro and Gilbert “Speedy” Gonzales, Jr. and wife, Judy, of Richardson; three sisters, Mary Salinas and husband, Richard, and Clara Salinas and husband, Bill, all of Waco, and Rosita Salinas and husband, Ramon, of Bynum; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lee and Jeanne Goodwin of Waco; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dwight and Linda Allen, Mary Ann Ferguson, and Kyle and Cynthia McCoy all of Waco; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends, and his church family whom he loved so much.
