Richard (Dick) Grimes, age 87, of Whitney, Texas, passed away on Sunday, December 10, 2023. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 20, 2024 at the First Nazarene Church in Whitney, Texas. There will be lunch served after the service.

Dick was born on July 2, 1936 in Martin's Ferry, Ohio to his parents, Cecil E. Grimes and Darcas Clark. He graduated from high school in 1954  and joined the US Air Force. Richard proudly served in the Air Force for 25 years from 1954 - 1979, contributing to many historic events in the aviation and space programs. In 1979, Dick retired from the AF in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Dick stayed in Cheyenne and enjoyed working for Powers Energy as a region sales associate for over 9 years. Later, he opened his own insulation business where he passionately operated for more than 15 years. Eventually, Dick retired (for real this time) in 1998 and spent 10 years with his wife touring North America in their RV. They visited Whitney and knew that was their new home (without wheels). Dick was an avid motorcycle rider, spending most of his weekends cruising the country roads with the Christian Motorcycle Club. He also enjoyed boating and could be found out on the lake fishing with friends and family whenever he could.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil E. Grimes and Dorcas Clark; his wife Susie Grimes in 2014; 2 sisters and 3 brothers

Dick is survived by his two children, Susan Ann  Ward and her husband Ben of Carpender, Wyoming and Richard H. Grimes II( from previous marriage) of Pennsylvania ; four grandchildren, Amanda (Avery) Klein and husband Greg of Denver, Colorado, Janelle (Vanne) Ward of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Benjamin Ward and wife Kim of Cheyenne, Wyoming and Jennifer Grimes; great-grandchildren, Scarlet Gracie Smith and Evelyn Jade Smith; Alma Evans of Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
