Richard Wayland Krizan, 74, of Satellite Beach, FL passed away in Tomball, TX on Wednesday, January 15, 2014. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, January 24, 2014, at Bold Springs Cemetery near West with Rev. Donald Scott officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Friday prior to service time at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.
He was born October 17, 1939 in Abilene, TX to Earl Wayland Krizan and Maxine Owens Krizan. In 1969 he married Sammie Wright of Hillsboro, TX. Upon graduating from San Angelo High School and after receiving a BS Degree from the University of Houston, he went onto to receive a Masters Degree from Golden Gate University. He was a member of ROTC; and upon graduating college, he entered the U.S. Army. His last posting was White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico where he worked testing missiles. After his service with the Army, he worked for LTV Aerospace and was responsible for designing and overseeing the installation of the instrumentation system for an A-7 test aircraft for the U.S. Air Force. Richard was transferred to Edwards AFB in California when the airplane was sent there for testing and worked there for 15 years. He went to work for the Civil Service for the Air Force and was transferred to Patrick AFB in Florida. He served as a system engineer and manager for the Air Force 45th Wing that provides support services of radar, optics, and telemetry for missile launches from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station and Kennedy Space Center. He retired from Civil Service in 2006.
Richard was an elder of the Presbyterian Church. He loved to travel in the United States, Canada, New Zealand, and Europe. He loved music and enjoyed it in many ways. He played saxophone. He sang in church choirs. He was a member of the Barbershop Harmony Society and enjoyed singing barbershop quartet music with his local chorus chapter and in a quartet. He was the proud sole owner of a 1968 Dodge Charger that he bought brand new in January 1968. He was a member of several car clubs when he could enjoy showing off his Charger and winning trophies.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Kenneth Krizan. He is survived by his wife, Sammie; sister-in-law, Wanda Roden and her husband, Mac Roden; nephews, Gregg, Gary, and Douglas Roden; niece, Lisa Gay Peraza; sister-in-law, Una Krizan; nephew, Kenneth Krizan, Jr.; nieces, Rebecca Lasseigne and Rachael Elton; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
