Richard Buck Sullivan, 80, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his family on August 2, 2023, in Waco, Texas.
Born in Fort Worth, Texas on October 4, 1942, to HD and Ernestine Sullivan, Richard grew up in the Whitney, Texas area and graduated from Whitney High School. In the 8th grade he met the love of his life and constant companion of more than 65 years, Nancy Connolly Sullivan. Together they raised two daughters, Tonya Sullivan Knauth (Rick Knauth) and Laura Randina Sullivan (Chad Lovett); and thoroughly enjoyed their four grandchildren: June, Katherine and Matthew Knauth, and Caitlin Lovett. He is survived by them and many other loved ones. In addition to being a dedicated husband, father and grandfather, Richard contributed his skills and talents through many jobs, living across Texas. He attended Texas Christian University on a football scholarship, during which time he married Nancy. After graduation, he began his work life as a football coach and teacher, served as a probation officer, and then worked his way up the ladder in the oil field service industry, retiring as a manager. Along the way, he was always a coach. A unifying theme of his life was his ability to support, inspire and lead others to do their best and give their all. He certainly exemplified those principles.
Services will be held on Wednesday August 9, 2023, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Whitney with Rev. Eddie Booth officiating. Visitation will begin at 8:30 am, following with a chapel service at 10:00am. Burial to follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory, where he will be laid to rest with his parents, grandparents and many other relatives.
Contributions can be made in Richard’s honor to the American Heart Association or the charity of your choice.
“Someday when we meet up yonder,
We’ll stroll hand in hand again.
In a land that knows no partin’,
Blue eyes cryin’ in the rain.”
