Robbie “Bob” Lewis Revels, 90, of Frost passed away Saturday morning, September 26, 2020, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 29, 2020, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro. Visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Tuesday prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow at Frost Cemetery.
Bob was born on December 27, 1929, in Sevier County, Arkansas, to John Edgar and Madge (Christian) Revels. Bob spent his early years growing up in Sevier County. He would tell of having to walk several miles to a country school and of spending quite a bit of time being reprimanded by spending time in a hole in the wall of the old school room for some antic or other. School was of no interest to him. He never finished high school, but never the less was very intelligent and knowledgeable.
He joined the United States Army at the age of 16 in 1946, which was the Army of Occupation after World War II. Of course his parents had to sign for him and his dad wiped his brow and gave a big sigh of relief—Bob would laugh and tell of this. After being honorably discharged from the Army in 1948, he came back home and enjoyed himself—becoming quite a good pool player. Bob went on to attend electrical trade school in Texarkana, TX. After that, Bob tells of hitch-hiking to Dallas with nothing but a brown paper bag for his clothes. He stayed with relatives for a while and started working for LeDoux Plumbing Company, working in the shop area at first. He was happy with that for the time being—working by day and having fun.
There was a time and place fore everything. Bob’s whole attitude changed after he met and married Mary Alice Williams in 1952. He had ambition and became a really good plumber. In 1958, he became a master plumber and owned his own business. He built a successful business (Revels Plumbing Co.) with lots of hard work and a good personality. Bob had as many as 100 plus residences going at a time all over Dallas County. He also attributed his success to the many good employees he had (son and daughters included) and to a fellow worker, Albert Angel, when he was first learning the trade who taught him the right way to do the work and it stuck with him throughout his lifetime.
Years went by and in 1981 a stress test showed problems with his arteries. Bob underwent by-pass surgery (three blocked arteries and cleaned another). But nothing ever got him down for long. He went on that very year to develop a mobile home park on the acreage where he lived in DeSoto. It took several years to complete and again was a success.
As a lot of men do, Bob returned to a farm and ranching. Now that was his life at age 90. Working maybe harder at ranching than he ever did before and loving it. His many grandchildren know him as “PA PA and His Tractor”. He was not eloquent, but fun-loving and most of all LOVED.
Bob was a member of Lockesburg Baptist Church in Lockesburg, AR and the Elks Lodge in DeSoto, TX. He also served as a volunteer fireman with the Hutchins Fire Department.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers; three sisters; and a grandson, Tristan John Revels.
Survivors include his loving wife, Mary Alice Revels of Frost; children, Marsha Clayton of Cleburne, Sherrie Curl and husband, Scotty, of Frost, Kelly Buchanan and husband, Thomas, of Arlington, and Robbie L. Revels, Jr. and fiance, Tammy Griggs of Frost; brother, Lonnie Revels and wife, Charlene, of Hico; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
