Robert A. “Hoppy” Hollingsworth, 84, of Hillsboro passed away peacefully Saturday, June 29, 2019, at Town Hall Estates Nursing Home in Hillsboro. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2019, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro with The Honorable F. B. “Bob” McGregor, Jr. and Mr. John Milburn officiating. Masonic Graveside services will follow at Frost Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, at the funeral home.
Robert was born November 1, 1934, in Mertens, Texas to Robert D. and Ruth (Hammer) Hollingsworth. He was a 1953 graduate of Hillsboro High School and received his Bachelor of Education from Texas Wesleyan University in 1957. Robert furthered his education by obtaining a master’s degree in Education from Tarleton State University. For over 20 years, he taught in Hill County schools.
From 1958-1960, he served his country in the United States Army. In 1966, Robert married the love of his life, Joyce Omberg.
Robert began a second career in law enforcement working for the City Marshal Division of Fort Worth, Texas, as City Marshal of Itasca and as a Reserve Deputy for the Hill County Sheriff’s Office.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hillsboro, Hillsboro Masonic Lodge #196 AF & AM, and was a Past Master of New Hope Lodge #652 AF & AM in Covington. Robert had a passion for photography whether as an educator or in law enforcement and loved playing the guitar.
Survivors include his loving wife, Joyce Hollingsworth of Hillsboro.
