Robert Lewis

Biography

Robert Allen Lewis, 80, of Hillsboro passed away Thursday, November 19, 2015, at his residence. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 24, 2015, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. Amy Anderson of Line Street United Methodist Church in Hillsboro officiating.

Robert, raised by his paternal grandparents, attended Hillsboro schools and was a member of Walnut Street Baptist Church in Hillsboro. Very early on, everyone could already see the fun-loving, mischievous person he would be. As a teenager, he became interested in the old west. He made himself an expert on all things western, especially the weapons. In 1951, Robert joined the Navy and served on the USS Boxer. While he was on this tour of duty, he served in Korea, Japan, and other ports-of-call. However while serving his country, he spent his free time riding bulls and doing stunts in Hollywood westerns. Between Naval tours, Robert served in the National Guard and met Audie Murphy. Later, Murphy got him back into stunts in Hollywood when Robert re-enlisted in the Navy.

After his final naval tour, Robert came home in 1967 and married LaDonna Biven. They had two wonderful children. He was a master machinist and built old west guns, mortars, and cannons. One was built for the Confederate museum. Robert worked for “Big D”, a theme park. While there, he was a re-enactor and filmed a movie, “Aurora Encounters.” Later, he did a game for fastdraw at festivals and other events. Late in life, he became a member of SASS and was a cowboy. He never worried about God’s plan for him. Where he goes next, he will be a storyteller and they will stay amused.

Preceding him in death were his father and step-mother, Rex and Jesse (Kuykendall) Lewis; mother, Edna Pearl Jack; and his grandparents.

Survivors include his wife, LaDonna Lewis of Hillsboro; two children, Kenneth Allen Lewis of Copperas Cove and Holly Schatte of Waco; sister, Jo Nell Moore and husband, J. Frank, of Hearne; and numerous other loving relatives and friends.
