Robert Earl McBride, 73, of Hillsboro, Texas passed from this life on Monday, September 7, 2020, at his home, with his wife and youngest daughter at his side. He was born to Dan Franklin McBride, Sr., and Berta Mae Mitchell McBride on March 26, 1947, in Shreveport, Louisiana. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Marines. Shortly after being discharged from the Marines, he met Lynette Wailes of Natchitoches, Louisiana; they married in 1970. The couple celebrated their 50th anniversary on August 22, 2020. A diversely talented man, he worked in many different jobs. He preferred work in which he could be outside and active. His longest occupation, long-haul owner-operator trucker, allowed him and his family to see much of the United States from the cab of a big rig.
Lifelong Christians, Robert and Lynette attended and served in Baptist churches in Louisiana and in Texas, for the last 29 years in Central Baptist Church, Hillsboro, Texas. In retirement, he enjoyed helping prepare and serve lunches at Baptist Student Ministry at Hill College, as well as helping renovate the premises of Mission Hillsboro Medical Clinic.
Robert is survived by his wife Lynette; his daughter, Lisa and her husband, Tony Cowan, of Bundall, Queensland, Australia; his daughter, Sarah and her husband, Darron Hamilton, of Annapolis, Maryland; and his daughter, Mae Nipp of Hillsboro; his grandchildren, Joyce Nipp, Dylan Cowan, and Edmund Hamilton; and his brother, Dan Franklin McBride, Jr., of Grand Cane, Louisiana.
The family is grateful to Dr. James Earhart and pharmacist Ed West for their care above and beyond ordinary duties.
A celebration of life will be held at a future date when COVID-19 restrictions will be lifted and his daughters will be able to attend. If desired, memorial gifts may be made to Mission Hillsboro Medical Clinic, P.O. Box 971, Hillsboro, TX, 76645.
