Robert Lee Monroe age 67 of Covington, passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2020, at his residence. A Graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, July 3, 2020 at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro, with Matt Crain and John Milburn officiating. A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday, July 2, 2020 at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.
Robert was born September 18, 1952 in Whitney, Texas to Douglas Cleo and Leda Pearl (Sheffield) Monroe. He grew up in Hillsboro and graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1972. Robert was united in marriage to Joni Kathleen Allison on February 20, 1971 in Hillsboro. In his early working years, he worked for Goodyear and Tom’s Tire. Robert then attended the police Academy in Waco, after graduating from the academy, he went to work for the Hillsboro Police Department as a Hillsboro police officer and patrol officer for 5 years. Then for the next 20 years he went to work for the Hill County Sherriff’s office starting out as a dispatcher, then became the jail administrator, retiring as Captain in 2017.
When Robert was not working, he was an avid fisherman and he enjoyed playing golf with his wife. He was very family oriented and enjoyed spending time with his family and going on vacations together. Robert was very patriotic and loved his country very much. He was also an active member of the Line street United Methodist church in Hillsboro.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and 2 brothers, Billy Monroe and Douglas Wayne Monroe.
Robert is survived by his wife, Joni Kathleen Monroe, of Covington, Texas; children, Doug Monroe and wife Flo, of Round Rock, Texas; sister, Mary Hughes, of Manvel, Texas; grandchildren, Douglas Lee Monroe II and Mason Lee Monroe, of Round Rock, Texas; cousin’s, Debra Votaw, of Hillsboro, Texas, Caroline Votaw, of Hillsboro, Texas; niece, Kristy Cameron and husband, Patrick, of Manvel, Texas; nephew, Jason Hughes and wife, Jennifer, of Pearland, Texas; and several great nieces, great nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
