Robert Paul Mitchell was born July 22, 1938, in Weatherford, Oklahoma, to Elbert and Bernice Wells Mitchell. He passed away on January 14, 2022, in Hillsboro, Texas. Bob was a blessing to his family and friends, and he will be greatly missed.
After graduating from Stafford High School in Oklahoma in 1956, he worked for two years for the Wunderlich Construction Company that built the Foss dam, and then two more years for a co-op elevator in Clinton, OK. From 1961 to 1965, he served in the U.S. Navy.
After returning from the Navy, he graduated magna cum laude in 1968 from Southwestern State College in Weatherford OK, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Education. In May of 1969 he graduated from Oklahoma State University where he received a Master of Science in Business Education and was ranked in the upper 10% of his class.
Bob moved to Waco, Texas, where he taught in the Business Department of McLennan Community College from 1969 until 1974. In 1971, he was married to Margaret Hay, and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 18, 2021.
In 1974, they moved to Dallas, where Bob worked for the Defense Department for several years, then Alcohol, Tobacco, & Firearms, and finally was a budget analyst for the IRS. In 1991 he was ordained as a deacon in the First Baptist Church of Richardson, TX.
Bob retired in December of 1999, and he and Margaret moved to Whitney, TX. In March of 2012, he became a member of the Sons of the American Revolution.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Charles E Mitchell, Jack Mitchell, and Don Mitchell, and sisters Bee Mitchell Moore and Anne Mitchell Novotny.
He is survived by his wife, nieces Anne Moore Martin of Ozark, MO, and her husband, John, Mary Paul Mitchell of California, Michelle Briggs and Melinda Kucharski, and Jennifer Craditt and Carrie Wilburn of Texas.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 27, 2022, at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas with Navy Honors.
