Robert Penney, Sr

Robert Gordon Penney, Sr., 83, of Whitney, passed away on May 10, 2017 at a Whitney nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, May 13, 2017, at Prairie Valley Baptist Church in Whitney, with Rev. Bobby Booth, Rev. David Gant and Rev. Rusty Penney officiating. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m, on Friday, May 12, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney.

Robert was born on June 12, 1933, in Whitney, to Claude and Mary (Gordon) Penney. On December 28, 1952, he married Bonnie Perkins in Whitney. During the Korean Conflict, he served his country in the United States Army. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Along with his wife, he was an avid Whitney Wildcat supporter and never missed a sporting event that the children and grandchildren were involved in. He was a member of Towash Baptist Church in Whitney.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and two brothers, Ross Penney and Clyde Penney.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie; children, Robert Penney, Jr., and wife, Sharon, David Penney and wife, Nita, Connie Gant and husband, David, Charlie Penney and wife, Penny, and Rusty Penney and wife Joann; grandchildren, Sherri Sorter and husband, Robert, Candi Penney, Misty Gallagher and husband, John, Melissa Penney, Kyle Gant, Josh Gant and wife, Bonnie, Caleb Gant, Nathan Gant and wife, Kandace, Steven Penney and wife, Laura, Neal Penney and wife, Shelly, Natalie Hood and husband, Kyle, Chase Stevens and wife, Lacy, Skylar Penney, Joseph Penney, Hannah Penney and Micah Penney; 24 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Claude Penney, Jr., and wife, Linda, Charles Penney and wife, Rene and Randolph Penney; an aunt, Ima Penney; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Memorials may be made to the Whitney Veterans Memorial Park, 217 S. Colorado St., Whitney, TX 76692.
