Robert Stanley

Robert Eugene (Gene) Stanley, age 78, of Hillsboro passed from this world to his eternal home on Friday, January 11, 2019, at Homestead Nursing and Rehab in Hillsboro. His family will host a memorial reception in his honor on Sunday, January 13, 2019, at First Baptist Church Social Hall in Hillsboro from 3:00-5:00 p.m. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.

Gene was born on April 13, 1940, in Wilmington, NC, the son of James H. Stanley and Anita Campen Stanley McDougald. Gene graduated from Forney High School in 1959 and Howard Payne College in Brownwood in 1964. He worked in New Orleans, LA, Sherman, TX, and McKinney, TX, before moving to Hillsboro in 2014. Gene was an active member of First Baptist Church of Hillsboro and Hillsboro Lions Club. He enjoyed the Thursday night gatherings at DL Williams’.

Preceding him in death were his parents; grandparents; half-brother, Dale Stanley; and longtime friend, Jean Kuhns.

Survivors include his half-brother, Ronnie and wife, Carole Stanley from Sulphur Springs; half-sister, Brenda Stanley from Hillsboro; sister-in-law, Connie Stanley from Waco; half-sister, Ann Vazquez from Glen Allen, VA; nieces, Monica Stanley Mathis, Andrea Stanley McKenzie, Shelley Stanley McCoy, and Alicia Stanley Flores; nephew, Rob Stanley; and many cousins and great nieces and nephews.
