Robert Young

Robert E. Young, 74, of Hillsboro passed away June 28, 2014 in a Whitney nursing home. Funeral services will be a 11:00 AM, Wednesday, July 2, at the Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Pastor Michael Nemec of Christ Lutheran Church in Hillsboro officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 AM Wednesday, prior to the service.

Robert was born March 29, 1940 to Virgil Lee and Sybil (Works) Young in Itasca. For most of his life, he was a truck driver working for various companies. After his retirement, he went to work for C.T.S.M., taking sick patients for medical treatments. He was very careful to take extra care to get them to and from their doctor visits safely.

He loved his grandchildren. He often spoke about April at age 4 wanting a pair of red Ropers, which he got for her. Shawn at age 3 could always pick out which truck was “Pops” at the trucking companies. And Maya would climb in his bed and lay in his arms while they watched cartoons together, both at home and during his time in the nursing home.

Robert believed in the Lord and wanted to share this with his dying friend in the nursing home. He asked the friend’s daughter if he could say a prayer for her. Then he made a sign of a cross on her chest and prayed.

He was always joking with everyone and was the life of the party. In his younger days, Robert enjoyed rodeoing and was active in team roping and bull riding.

On August 8, 1972, he married Clydene Schronk Murray. The couple were both members of Christ Lutheran Church in Hillsboro. Robert was baptized on April 1, 1973 at Salem Lutheran Church in Malone by Pastor Roland Finke. His bible verse was Acts 2:47, “The Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.”

He is survived by Clydene Young; Jerry, Dawn and Shawn Murray; Paul, Mary and Maya Murray; Kevin, April and Tyson McGuire; Thomas Young and family; Johnny Young and family; Bennie Young and family; Doris Young and family; Wanda Beck and family; and Michael Young and family; as well as many other friends and relatives.
