He was born in Dallas on February 7, 1949. His family moved to DeSoto where Roger attended elementary, junior high, and high school. He was a star football player and was known for his great speed on the field.
Roger served in the U. S. Navy as an Airman from 1968-1972. In 1969, he volunteered for a deployment to Viet Nam so that a fellow soldier that was expecting a baby with his wife could remain State-side. Roger received 4 military medals while serving. In 1970, he was injured in Viet Nam and spent most of that year in the Navy hospital in Corpus Christi. For the remainder of his military service, he was in Norfolk, VA where he maintained flight schedules and flight orders for the pilots. After an Honorable Discharge from the U. S. Navy, Roger returned to Texas. He was a true American patriot and he loved his country! He was known to write U. S. Senators and Congressman on a regular basis.
He married his true love, soulmate, and best friend, Donna Bullard, on September 10, 1982. He loved her dearly and they celebrated life together for more than 38 years. There was not a day in their life together that they did not have fun, laugh, and love. He was a true gentleman and he treated Donna like his princess. The Lord gifted him with a servant heart that showed in his hospitality as he and Donna had numerous ministry and family gatherings in their home. Roger had an unforgettable sense of humor. He brought joy and laughter everywhere he went!
He worked for Chuck Howley Uniform Rental for 20 years. He changed careers and became a Certified Nursing Assistant and worked in Home Health Services and at HealthSouth Diagnostic Imaging Clinic. After moving to the Lake Whitney area, he was employed at Waco Gastroenterology Clinic from which he eventually retired in 2013.
Roger loved Jesus. He and Donna attended Hope Ministries in Valley Mills. He loved their church family! Roger opened their church services to the Lord with the sound of the shofar! In fact, he was known for his ability to sound the shofar for an extended period.
Other activities Roger loved included being out on the water boating on the lake, camping, fishing, cooking, grilling, gardening, working on his cars, and riding in his ATV. He loved and cared deeply for his 3 dogs. He also enjoyed and maintained a 20-gallon aquarium for many years. He enjoyed sitting out on the deck, drinking his coffee, and reading his Bible.
He was a loyal and true family man, and he loved his children, his grandchildren, his brothers, sisters, and his extended family and friends. He was highly active in raising their kids – he loved teaching them how to fish! He loved taking them camping and on the boat. He coached them in softball, baseball, and basketball. He was always there for each one of them.
Roger was preceded in death by his father, Jesse Bullard, Jr.; his mother, Jewel Bullard; and brother, Tommy Bullard.
Roger is survived by his wife, Donna; sons, Jordan Bullard and Joel (Carie) Bullard; daughter, Erin (Robert) Ferry; brothers, Johnny (Carolyn) Bullard and Alan (Patti) Bullard; sisters, Karen (Rick) Ridgeway and Carol Bullard Harris; seven grandchildren, Savannah, Dustin, Brendle, Baylen, Race, Brystol, and Jaxton; plus many nieces and nephews.
