Roger Duane Weigelt

Roger Duane Weigelt, 92, retired Tech SGT, USAF of West, Texas, formerly of Whitney, Texas passed away on January 14, 2024, at Hill Regional Hospital. Funerals services will be at 10:00, Friday, January 19, 2024, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Whitney. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Thursday, January 18, 2024, at Marshall & Marshall, Whitney.

Roger was born on May 29, 1931, in Harvey, North Dakota to his parents, Adolph Gustav Weigelt and Olga Wagner.

At the age of 20, Roger enlisted in the US Air Force and spent 20 years traveling the globe; from the Cork Forest in Africa to Alaska. he served in both the Korean and Vietnam War. Roger was awarded the Bronze Star of Meritorious service during the Vietnam War. He retired in July 1971 and moved to Whitney, Texas and worked for Contel Phone Company until 1984. Roger then went to work for himself and could fix almost anything. He retired in 1996.

Roger married the love of his life, Sarah Beth Gandy on April 1, 1954, in Sedalia, Missouri, where he was stationed at Whiteman AFB. Sarah passed away on January 5, 2023. Roger was a charter member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Whitney, Texas, where he served on the church counsel. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion in Whitney, also the Air Force Sergeant Association.

Roger is preceded in death by his loving wife, Sarah; son, Dennis Weigelt; and sister Audrey Johnson.

He is survived by daughter, Carolyn and husband Tony Wright; grand-cat, Tuffy; granddaughters, Kathy Moore and Sarah Jennett; special friends and neighbors Rufus and Agnes Lamere.
