Rolan Tucker

Rolan Guynn Tucker, 88, of Hillsboro passed away Monday, July 1, 2013, at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 5, 2013, at First Baptist Church in Hillsboro with Rev. Ken James and Rev. Danny Gilliam officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 4, 2013, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.

Rolan was born July 12, 1924 in Mathis, the son of Rufus Gilbert and Sylvia (Shilling) Tucker. Growing up in Burnett, he graduated from high school there in 1941 and went on to graduate from Northwestern University in Chicago. On June 20, 1944, he married Shirley Cravener. During World War II, he served his country in the United States Army in the Pacific Theater.

While the couple lived in Dallas, Rolan served as a City Councilman there. He was a Deputy Commissioner for the Savings and Loan division of the State of Texas. In 1993, Rolan and Shirley became founding and charter members of the North Texas Air Stream Community in Hillsboro. Active in numerous organizations, he was a member of First Baptist Church in Hillsboro, Salesmanship Club in Dallas, Masonic Lodges in Dallas and Hillsboro, Scottish Rite, Rotary Club in Dallas and Hillsboro, and was a Boy Scout Leader. Rolan also enjoyed playing music with the Hill College band and was an avid golfer.

Preceding him in death were his parents and sister, Virginia Tucker.

Survivors include his loving wife of 69 years, Shirley Tucker of Hillsboro; two children, Glenn Tucker and wife, Mary, of Plano and Jeanine McDaniel of Hillsboro; brother, H. Dale Tucker and wife, Vashti, of Marble Falls; sister, Betty Tucker Brown of Taylor; six grandchildren, Jay Smith, Chad Smith, Melinda Smith, Brandon Smith, Chris Tucker, and Matthew Tucker; ten great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
