Roland Mantooth, Sr

Roland Mantooth Sr., 85, of Whitney, passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2017, at Goodall Witcher Hospital in Clifton. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, February 18, 2017, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney with Rev. Curtis McGehee of Abiding Life Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro. A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

Roland was born on November 17, 1931, in Houston, to Horace and Bessie (Fuller) Mantooth. On January 28, 1950, he married LaMerle Blanton in Houston. He worked for Graham Paper Company in Houston before going to work for the Houston ISD in 1963 as a shipping clerk and a supervisor before retiring in 1991. A resident of Whitney since April 1, 1980, he enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, camping and taking care of his lawn. He was a member of Abiding Life Church of Whitney.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a sister, Wanda Tanner; three brothers, Don, Douglas and Ronnie Mantooth.

Survivors include his wife, LaMerle Mantooth of Whitney; children, Sharon Nichols and husband, Fred, Pam Cullum and husband, Ray, James Mantooth, Jr, and Kenneth Mantooth, Sr., and wife, Leah all of Whitney, and Jeri Vowell and husband, Wayne of Sallisaw, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Robbie Kessler and wife, Karen, Cheryl Grissom and husband, Shannon, James Vowell, Tracie Buck and husband, Stan, Tina Mantooth, D.J. Mantooth and wife, Alycia, Caleb Mantooth and wife Brianna, Jordan Mantooth, Hannah Mantooth, Michael Vowell and wife, Sandra, Kandace Van Meter and husband, Shane, Kristopher Vowell and wife, Tosha, Monica Schwint and husband, Joe, Rachel Lair and husband, Tyler and Amanda Fuentes; 29 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
