Roma Raye Wright passed away Tuesday, November 12, 2024. She was born December 19, 1944, in Sioux City, Iowa to Boyd P. and Mildred L. (Blue) Zoeller.
She loved sharing her childhood experiences with her parents and sisters when her father was a minister and a school principle in Iowa and Indiana. In 1957, her family moved to Austin, Texas, where her dad attended University of Texas.
Roma worked for over twenty years as Executive Assistant to directors and commissioners of state agencies, including the Texas Department of Health, the Texas General Land Office and the Austin District Engineer of the Texas Department of Transportation. She was on staff when the Health Department created Home Health care in Texas. Roma worked in the Texas Legislature on the staff of the State Affairs Committee in the Texas Senate and on the staff of Senator Bill Moore and Senator John Traeger, before working for Texas House Speaker Bill Clayton. She worked eleven years as Administrative Assistant then Administrator of the Governmental Affairs for the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants. After retiring she would return to work for the Secretary of the Senate during the legislative session.
Teaching Sunday School for twenty years in Austin and Malone, Roma was strong in faith. In 2005, Roma and her husband, Larry, moved to Malone and she served three terms on the Malone School Board and Secretary of the Salem-Irene Cemetery Association. She enjoyed her volunteer work serving Meals on Wheels and as a hospital volunteer in Austin and at the M.J. "Cell" and Annie Lee Wright Memorial Library at the Malone school. Most of all she enjoyed her children and grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her parents, Boyd and Mildred Zoeller, Roma is survived by her husband, Larry Wright; three daughters, Karleen Prewitt of Loudon, Tennessee, Donna Broder and her husband, Steve, of Terrell, Texas, and Regina Tittley and her husband, Nathan, of Waco, Texas; one son, Mark Fletcher and his wife Kari, of Jacksonville, Texas; one step-daughter, Jessica Morris, of Aubrey, Texas; one sister, Rosemary Loeve, of Austin, Texas; sixteen grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial for Roma will be scheduled at a later date.
