Ronald Reed Cliett, 62, of Whitney, passed away on Monday, Dec.26, at Lake Whitney Medical Center after a bold fight with cancer. Ronald was born on August 24, 1943, in Hillsboro. He was the son of Benjamin Quinn Cliett and Georgie Lee Duke. He was raised on the family ranch in the Huron community and attended school in both Whitney and Blum, graduating from Blum High School where he participated in many agricultural-related activities. His love of the ranch inspired his pursuit of a Master of Science Degree in Agriculture, which he earned from Tarleton State University in 1977. He began teaching at Midway and Hillsboro High Schools. He then worked in the oil industry in College Station in the early 80's. In 1983 he returned to Whitney where he owned and operated Whitney Ranch and Farm Supply until 1994. He then resumed his teaching career at Whitney I.S.D. in 1995 retiring due to his illness in 2004. Ronald touched the lives of many students. He tirelessly volunteered his time assisting them with projects instilling a sense of care and responsibility. He was one of the founders of the Lake Whitney Jr. Livestock Assoc. developed to benefit local youth in their agricultural endeavors. He was preceded in death by: his parents; a brother, Billy Quinn Cliett in 1954; and a sister, Joyce Rogers in 2002. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Linda Eubank Cliett of Whitney; a daughter, Lana Ronette Brunett and her husband, Jason of Aquilla; and their children, Bryce, Brady, Lacey and Reed Brunett; a son, Rory Quinn Cliett and his wife, Allyson of Whitney and their children, Ethan Sessums and Kennedy Cliett; two sisters, LaVerne McConathy and her husband, Denton of Whitney, and Charlotte Ryan and her husband, Bobby of Georgia; two sisters-in-law, Lecya Peacock and her husband Eddie, Rexann Bissing and her husband Sam; three brothers-in-law, Ron Eubank and his wife, Deanna, Lon Eubank and his wife Carol, and Lyle Eubank and his wife, Marchel, all of Whitney; and many other relatives, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and colleagues. Memorials may be made to: Lake Whitney Junior Livestock Association; Whitney Church of Christ; King Memorial United Methodist Church or Hospice of the Heart.
