Rose Lance Curtis, 93, of Tyler died Monday, October 5, 2009, in Tyler. Rose was born July 16, 1916 in Monticello, Arkansas the daughter of Thomas Marion and Dora Presley Lance. At the age of four she moved with her family to Hillsboro. She was a graduate of the Seton School of Nursing in Austin. On June 1, 1941 she married Walter Curtis, Sr. and he preceded her in death on December 26, 1988. She lived in Waco from 1943 until moving to Tyler in 2000. While living in Waco, she was an RN and medical secretary at Providence Hospital. She was a member of the Seton School of Nursing Alumni, First Baptist Church in Tyler, and formerly a member of Walnut Street Baptist Church in Hillsboro. Also preceding her in death were her parents; step-son, Walter Elmer Curtis, Jr.; brother, Mark Lance; and sister, Ruth Zimmerman. Survivors include her son, Thomas H. Curtis and wife, Carla, of Tyler; step-son, John E. Curtis of Houston; three grandchildren, Walt, Matt, and Rebecca Curtis; three great-grandchildren, Ian, Matilyn, and Cameron Curtis; and a nephew, Lance Zimmerman. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Tyler Harvest Fund, 301 W. Ferguson, Tyler, TX 75702.
