Roy Don Gibson

Roy Don Gibson, age 67, of Hillsboro passed away Monday, July 26, 2021. A funeral service will be held at noon Friday, July 30, 2021, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Dr. Gerald Dudley officiating. Burial will follow at Frost Cemetery in Frost. He will lie in state from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Thursday, July 29, 2021, and a family visitation will be held from 10:00 am to noon Friday, July 30, 2021, prior to the service at the funeral home.

Roy lost his fight with pancreatic cancer on July 26, 2021, at his home with his family holding his hands at his bedside. Roy was a hard worker; from an early age he picked up Coke bottles and had a newspaper route with his older brother Billy. Roy had a passion for working on cars. Previous jobs were Texas Kenworth, St. Joe Paper Co., and mechanics, then he went on to opening his own used car dealership.  After he married Phyllis in 1990, they opened their dealership in Greenville where Roy got to do what he loved with the love of his life, his wife. In his free time, he loved going to the casinos, fishing, and going to the RV park hanging out with their lake family. He loved to joke and make everyone laugh. Loving him was easy. If you knew Roy, he made you laugh at least once.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, William Patrick “Billy” Gibson, Jr., and Wesley Rogers.

Roy is survived by his wife, Phyllis Gibson; his children, Shelly Gibson, Pamela Gibson, and Phillip Key; his brothers, Hugh Gibson and Jeff Gibson; his sister, Lori Knowles and husband Loy; along with nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
