Ruby Lee Shoup, 84, of Whitney passed away Friday, November 11, 2016, at Ridgecrest Retirement Center in Waco. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 15, 2016, at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Tuesday prior to service time at the cemetery.
Ruby was born April 25, 1932 in Artesia, NM to George and Jessie Mae (Pettigrew) Rinker. On January 5, 1961, she was united in marriage to George L. Shoup, Sr. in Oklahoma. A resident of the Whitney area since 1971, Ruby was employed at Whitney ISD as a special needs bus driver for over 25 years, retiring in 1997. Ruby loved her family unconditionally. Spending summer time with her grandchildren and being with her family for holidays brought her great joy. In her spare time, she enjoyed dancing, bowling, and listening to music of all types. An excellent cook and baker, Ruby loved to show others how to cook. She was a member of the First Church of The Nazarene in Whitney. Ruby dearly loved her pet chihuahua, Poncho.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband on July 3, 1997; son, Sonny E. Smith; daughter, Cynthia L. Chouinard; two sisters, Colida Smith and Lucille Barhamm; and brother, Bennie Joe Rinker.
Survivors include her children, Patricia Byars and husband Bill, of Lorena, David Shoup of Cedar Hill, and George Shoup, Jr. and wife, Anja, of Dallas; daughter-in-law, Shirley Smith of Woodbine. Ruby was blessed with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
