Ruth Kendrick

Alice Ruth Conaway Kendrick, 93, of Hillsboro passed away Sunday, February 22, 2015. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 1, 2015, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. Leah Hidde-Gregory of First United Methodist Church in Hillsboro officiating. Burial will follow at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Sunday prior to service time at the funeral home.

Born May 2, 1921 in Brandon, she was the daughter of James “Jim” Monroe and Sallie Valencia “Linnie” (Bryant) Conaway. A graduate of the University of Texas, Ruth’s love for the Texas Longhorns never wavered. On July 31, 1948, she was united in marriage to William Maurice Kendrick. He preceded her in death on March 1, 1993. For 42 years she taught bookkeeping and typing at Hillsboro High School, retiring in 1984. She was also a Senior sponsor and yearbook sponsor for many years. In her private life, Ruth had a great love for her family’s history and spent many hours working on and recording genealogy data. Through the years, she met many interesting relatives.

Also preceding her in death were her parents; brothers, Bryant Wesley Conaway, Wendell Jay Conaway, and Thaxon Monroe Conaway; sister, Vivian Conaway; and nephews, James Donald Conaway and Jackson Monroe Conaway.

Survivors include her nephews, Bryant Douglas Conaway and wife, Francine, and Robert Marshall Conaway and wife, Alice; nieces, Dianne Conaway Blankenstein and husband, Henry, and Bettye Carol Stone and husband, Danny; great-nephews, Bryant Douglas Conaway, Jr., and wife, Nancy, William Frank Conaway, and Brian Henry Blankenstein and wife, Amanda; great-nieces, Claudia Sue McClure and husband, Billy, and Brenda Marie Terenas and husband, Paul; great-great nieces and nephews, Bryant Wesley Conaway, Rebecca Sue McClure Forman husband, Matt, and daughters, Madison Reece and Makenzie Grace Forman, Patrick Brady McClure wife, Jenelle, and son, Mason Lane McClure, Aurora Blankenstein, Danette Carol Stone, Marc Eugene Stone, Preston Daniel Stone, Ramsey Aaron Stone, Kelly Lynn Conaway, Robert Marshall Conaway, Jr., Stephanie Kay Conaway, Jackson Monroe Conaway, Christy Ranae Conaway, Bradley James Conaway, Brandon James Conaway, and Barrett Donald Conaway, and Shandra Conaway (wife of James Donald Conaway) and children.
