Ruth Pelham

Ruth Elaine Wiley Pelham, 72, of Whitney, passed away Friday, June 28, 2013 in Waco, Texas. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at the Prairie Valley Baptist Church near Whitney. Burial will follow at the Prairie Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM, Monday at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney.

Ruth was born to the late Hassie Taylor and Loyd Wiley on September 6, 1940 in the Whitney community. She graduated from Whitney High School in 1959, later marrying her childhood sweetheart, John Pelham, in 1961. The two had known each other since the fifth grade. For thirty-one years, she served as Hill County Clerk until her retirement in September of 2005. She was then appointed County Treasurer in 2006 and retired again in December of that year. Ruth was a dedicated member of Prairie Valley Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Johnny Pelham, of Whitney; one son, Scott Pelham, and wife, Sheri, of Whitney, one daughter, Kimberly Pelham Parton, of Frisco, and adopted son, Jimmy Atwell, and wife, Dorothee, of Germany. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Haley Yarbrough and husband, Chance, Hilary Hosterman and husband, Adam, Hope Pelham, Hayden Pelham, Brittany Barkley, Tyler Barkley, Madison Barkley and Wyatt Parton; one great-grandson, Harrison Messer; three sisters, Helen Terry, Laura Nell Ward , and Lula Bell Crawford, all of Whitney; and MANY beloved nieces, nephews and close friends. Preceding her in death were her parents, and a brother, Olin Wiley.
