Sam Johnson, 70, of Whitney passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at his residence. The family will hold a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 10, at the Open Range Cowboy Church in Whitney.

Sam was born June 7, 1942 in Sutton, West Virginia to Stanley Noel and Mamie J. (Searfoss) Johnson. He grew up in West Virginia and West Texas before graduating from Texarkana High School. After being employed for TI in Dallas, he went to work for OEC for 20 years. In 1989 he moved to Whitney. Sam enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a member of Open Range Cowboy Church in Whitney and Whitney Masonic Lodge #355 where he was a Master Mason.

Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother, Edgar Johnson.

Survivors include two sons, Danny Johnson of Corpus Christi and David Johnson of Mansfield; two brothers, David Noel Johnson of Aquilla and Eldon Johnson of West Virginia; sister, Barbara Franklin of West Virginia; four grandchildren, Branon Johnson, Blake Johnson, Kelsey Johnson, and Meagan Johnson; and a great-granddaughter, Kaylynn Johnson.
