Sam was born on April 10, 1930 in Slaton, the son of the late Sam T. and LillianRoyal Mosley. He grew up in Hillsboro and played basketball at Hill Junior College. He married Libba Sanders on March 3, 1951. Mosley became the head football coach at Humble in 1972 and remained in that post until 1978. He led the Wildcats to their first 10-0 season in 1975. Mosley became the Humble ISD athletic director in 1975 and they still hold the Sam Mosley Relay's during track season every year. He retired in 1992, but not before establishing a successful Kingwood High School athletic department. He was one of the first athletic directors in the area to establish girls programs. Mosley was also instrumental in getting 4 junior high athletic departments off the ground during his stint as athletic director. Mosley died just before Friday night's football game between Atascacita and Humble. The crowd observed a moment of silence in his honor.
