Samuel Lavern Johnson passed away on January 23, 2018, in a Fort Worth hospital. A graveside service will be held at Whitney Memorial Park at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 25, 2018, with Mr. Bruce Martin officiating, under the direction of Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney, .

Samuel was born on May 7, 1933, in Hill County, to Elbert and Bertie (Young) Johnson. He grew up in Hill County and moved to Johnson County where he raised his family in Cleburne.

His hobbies included cars, attending car shows as well as playing guitar and listening to country music. In his younger years, he enjoyed country/western dancing and even won some dance competitions. Being very family oriented, he loved spending time with his family. He was of the Church of Christ faith.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his first wife, Rita; his second wife, LaVerne; and a sister, Veleta Johnson.

Survivors include his children, Marty Johnson and wife, Evelyn of Whitney, Jeannie Scott and husband, Glenn Galloway of San Antonio, and Lori Graham and husband, Bobby of Mansfield; a granddaughter, Jessicae Wellborn of Johsua; three great-grandchildren; brothers Jimmy Johnson and wife, Peggy of Cleburne, Bobby Johnson and wife Judy and David Johnson and wife, Janette, all of Covington, Richard Johnson of Hillsboro and Harold Johnson and wife Janet of Slaton; sisters, Totsy Perkins of Covington, Barbara Russell of Glen Rose, Linda Henzler and husband, Charlie of Slayton, Janie Gray of Topeka, KS, and Sharon Hargrove and husband, Fred of Hillsboro; as well as several nieces and nephews.
