Sara Ann (Siddons) Mcdonald

Sara Ann Siddons McDonald, 93 years old, lifetime resident of Hillsboro, Texas, died in the afternoon of August 27, 2021, peacefully in her home.  Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 2, 2021, at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro. Mrs. McDonald will lie in state from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 1, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.

Sara was born September 2, 1927, the third child of W.W. “Will” Siddons, Sr., and Matilda Rose Wieser Siddons.  She graduated from Hillsboro High School and was president of her senior class in 1944.  After high school graduation, she attended the University of Incarnate Word in San Antonio, followed by Texas Tech University and finally the University of Texas from which she graduated in 1948.

She married her high school sweetheart, William Martin McDonald, Sr., in 1949 to whom she remained married until his death in 2017.   They had three children, Sara Lynn McDonald Kincaid, who predeceased them, William Martin McDonald, Jr., of Austin, Texas, and Michael W. McDonald of Hillsboro, Texas.  Sara is survived by her two sons; one granddaughter, Alisa Kincaid; two grandsons, Claiborne Michael McDonald and Craig Gaston McDonald; and two daughters-in-law, Laurie Ann McDonald and Audry McDonald.

She was an active member in several organizations including Sesame Club, Pricilla Club, Hillsboro PTA, the Garden Club, and the Hillsboro Heritage League.  She was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church her entire life and faithfully attended mass weekly until her health prevented it.   She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and the Altar Society at her church.

Sara did not work outside the home but was a champion homemaker, gardener, and cook. Her yard was always full of flowers and beautiful plants.  She was famous for many dishes including her ‘sweet rolls.’  She believed in education and was proud of the fact that all her kids and grandkids graduated from college.  Mostly though she loved her many friends and family, all of whom will miss her.

In her later years she was blessed to have two angel care givers, Tamijo Butcher and Lorena Panuco, who made it possible for her to live out her last years at home.  Sara loved them as if they were her daughters.

Memorial donations may be made in Sara’s name to the Hillsboro Professional Firefighters Association, 110 West Franklin, Hillsboro, TX 76645.
