He served in the Texas National Guard in the 49th Armored Division in Ranger and later in Hillsboro.

In 1953, he moved to Whitney with his parents and worked for 40 years with Texas Power and Light until his retirement. Hudson had many friends in the Hill County area and was well known as he was a meter reader in several counties. He took great pride in knowing every house and all the roads in the area. Hudson enjoyed making model cars and had numerous pickup trucks, hot rods, 18 wheelers, and armored vehicles, all in miniature form. He was especially proud of his craftsmanship and loved to share his treasures with everyone who visited his workshop. He was a faithful member of the Aquilla Church of Christ.
