Shirley Aven

Shirley Claire (Pletcher) Aven, 79, of Whitney, passed away on August 1, 2018, in a Houston hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, August 9, 2018 at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors of Whitney with Chaplain Larry Schneider of Mission Hospice officiating. The family will hold a private burial following the service.

Shirley was born on May 29, 1939, in Akron, Ohio, to Leslie and Gladys (O’Dell) Pletcher and graduated from Green High School. On May 29, 1968, she married Floyd Aven in Tombstone, Arizona and he preceded her in death on December 28, 2017. For over 30 years, she owned and operated a chemical business. She enjoyed movies, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.

Rescuing animals was very important to Shirley and she had been a very active member of the Lake Whitney Humane Society.

Also preceding her in death were her parents and a brother Bill Pletcher.

Survivors include her children, Sherry Chapman, Claudia DeWitt, Scott Winland and Bridget Wambley all of Ohio and Laura Christine Wood and Michelle Hensser, both of Texas; eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; a sister, Joann Hostetler of Montana and a brother, Ron Pletcher of Florida.
