Shirley Barnes, 72, of Arlington, formerly of Whitney, passed away on August 26, 2014. A memorial graveside service under the direction of Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors, will be held at noon on September 3, 2014, at Whitney Memorial Park with Pastor Terry Vaughn of One Way Church in Midlothian, officiating. There will be no visitation prior to the celebration of life service with memories of Shirley being shared by family and friends. Her wishes were to be cremated and buried next to her husband.

Shirley was born on February 27, 1942, in Santa Anna, to Donald Ray and Ira Earle (Walters) Vinson. On October 7, 1960, she married Gene Barnes of Whitney, and he passed away on May 19, 1974. She was a devoted and loving mother who instilled in her three daughters a strong sense of love, responsibility and devotion to family which has now grown and affected many people who saw all these qualities which her daughters believe was part of God’s plan.

She is already dearly missed and forever will be.

Music, dancing, playing the piano and entertaining others by sharing family history were some of the pastimes she enjoyed.

She is survived by her mother, Ira Kuzniarek; three daughters and their husbands, Cassandra and Steve Conway, Glynis and Virgil Green and Shannon and Joe Travelstead; brother, Billy Vinson; 2 sisters, Glenda Uptmore and Lucretia Hoffman; 14 nieces and nephews; 29 great-nieces and nephews; 5 great-great-nieces and nephews; 2 goddaughters,1 godson, 2 god-granddaughters, 1 god-grandson, 2 great-god-granddaughters and 1 great-god-grandson.
