Shirley Leary

Shirley Leary, 76, of Whitney, passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2015, at a Waco hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, February 26, 2015, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Whitney. Burial will follow at Whitney Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 1:00 - 2:00 PM, Thursday, prior to the service, at the funeral home.

Shirley was born on July 31, 1938, in Itasca, to Crawford and Ruby (Thompson) West. She lived most of her life around the Gulf Coast region before moving back to Hill County and the Whitney area in 1984. In 1954, she married John Hughes and he preceded her in death in 1996 and married Clifford Leary in 1986; he preceded her in death in l994. She like to dance and also enjoyed shopping. While raising her family and being a homemaker, she was also a beautician.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Wayne West and a sister Joyce Curry.

Survivors include children, Belinda “Bo” Taylor of Hillsboro, Terri Redman of Whitney, Johnny Hughes of Galveston and Jimmy Hughes of Whitney; a sister, Peggy Franks of Whitney; 7 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
