Shirley June Tucker, 92, of Tyler, formerly of Hillsboro, passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at her residence. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro. Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday, April 22, at the funeral home.

Born October 3, 1925 in Chicago, IL, she was the daughter of Amos and Genevieve Cravener. She graduated from high school in Chicago where she studied voice with very talented teachers. For over 67 years, Shirley sang in choirs and at many weddings, funerals, and community events in the Chicago and Dallas areas.

On June 20, 1944, Shirley was united in marriage to Rolan Tucker. Following Rolan’s return home from serving in the Philippines, they lived in Chicago for eight years. One very cold and wintry day in February 1955, the couple decided to move to Dallas with a seven year old son and two year old daughter. While living in Dallas, she served as president of the Rotary Ann Belles and was past president of garden clubs in Dallas and Chicago. She and Rolan loved singing in choirs together.

In 1993, Rolan and Shirley became founding and charter members of the North Texas Air Stream Community in Hillsboro. They enjoyed traveling all over the country in their airstream alongside their friends. The couple became active members of First Baptist Church in Hillsboro. She was also a member of Monday Review Club and Daughters of The American Revolution. Shirley loved to cook and entertain. In their spare time, Shirley and Rolan enjoyed taking all of their grandchildren on trips to different parts of the country. They loved showing them the beauty of our country and taking them to wonderful museums to teach them the history of our country.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Rolan Tucker on July 1, 2013; and sister, Edith Cook.

Survivors include her two children, Glenn Tucker and wife, Mary, of Plano and Jeanie McDaniel of Hillsboro; six grandchildren, Chris Tucker, Matthew Tucker, Jay Smith, Chad Smith, Melinda Brands, and Brandon Smith; 12 great-grandchildren, Coby Smith, Kyle Smith, Michael Smith, Randy Smith, Nathan Tucker, Jacob Tucker, Sarah Tucker, Collin Tucker, Garrett Tucker; Samantha Brands and twins, Rowan and Finley Brands; and three great-great grandchildren, Emma Smith, Lennon Smith, and Jayden Smith.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, P. O. Box 271, Hillsboro, TX 76645.
