Stella Degner, 98, of Hillsboro passed away Friday, December 30, 2011, at St. Catherine Center in Waco, Texas. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM, Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at Christ Lutheran Church in Hillsboro with Pastor Michael Nemec officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory. Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM Monday, January 2, 2012 at the funeral home.
Stella was born October 12, 1913 in Penelope, Texas to Harry and Emma (Sonnenberg) Radke. On December 20, 1934 she married Fred E. Degner at Salem Lutheran Church in Malone by Pastor Gartner and to this union one son, Milton Boyd Degner was born on February 13, 1938.
Also preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Fred E. Degner on January 13, 1976; son, Milton Degner; two sisters, Juanita Schulze and Erelene Neumann; and brother Edgar Radke.
Stella was baptised on January 11, 1914 at St. Peters Lutheran Church by Pastor Boulder and was confirmed April 1, 1928 at St. Peters Lutheran Church by Pastor Baack. Her memory verse was 2 Timothy 2:5. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed cooking and baking very much.
Survivors include daughter-in-law, Mary Degner of Waco; two grandchildren: Diane Degner Walters of Waco; Daren Degner and wife, Kristi of Lorena; three great-grandchildren: Christopher McKelvain of Arlington; Dani Degner and Delani Degner, of Lorena, Texas; two sisters, Ester M. Vess of Waxahachie, Texas and Edna A. Roberts of Harker Heights, Texas and several nieces and nephews.
