After an extended battle with cancer, Steve Johnston of Whitney received his angel wings on October 13, 2017. Steve was born on October 15, 1946 in Houston to Kenneth Bard Johnston and Lois Vivian (Radcliff) Johnston. He attended the University Houston, graduating Magna Cum Laude and after earning many academic honors, received a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. However, his proudest accomplishment during these years was his courtship of his future wife, Susan. The two met in college in 1969 and married on May 26, 1973.
During his 37-year career with Shell Oil Companies, he was recognized as a premier expert in heat transfer engineering. His research led to several patents for Shell, and he served for many years as Shell’s representative to the Heat Transfer Research Institute, where he served several terms as the Chairman of the Technical Committee. Upon retirement, Steve moved to Whitney where he enjoyed golf, astronomy, and his family while also continued to work on engineering projects that interested him. Above all, Stephen was a family man and found his purpose as a loving husband and father.
Steve is survived by his wife, Susan, a son Brian Johnston of New York City, a daughter Stephanie Johnston of Carrollton, a darling granddaughter Ellie, and a sister, Kendra Broderick of Friendswood. In lieu of flowers, friends may consider a donation The University of Texas Cancer System M D Anderson Hospital.
Honorary Pallbearers are Roy Johnson, Ken Wengler, Bill Paul, Max George, Scott Stomerowski and Buddy Kluppell
