Steven Howard Butcher, 48, of Bynum passed away Monday, January 4, 2016, in a Mansfield hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 8, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. Danny Gilliam of First Baptist Church in Hillsboro officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Grove “Greenie” Cemetery near Aquilla. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 7, at the funeral home.
Steven was born September 21, 1967 in Hillsboro to Harold J. and Nell (Ivie) Butcher. After graduating from Whitney High School in 1986, he received his respiratory therapist licence from MCC and later received his RN licence in 2001 from MCC also. During his nursing career, he was employed at Hill Regional Hospital, Kindred Hospital, and Mansfield Methodist Hospital. He also worked at Providence and Hill Regional as a respiratory therapist. In his spare time, Steven liked to watch old movies, Ozzie Osborne, MASH, CSI, Criminal Minds, Peanuts movies, and Sponge Bob. An avid reader, his favorite authors were J. R. Tolkien and Stephen King and some of his favorite books were The Hobbitt, Lord of The Rings, and Harry Potter. He was also a Harley Davidson motorcycle enthusiast. He was of the Baptist faith.
Preceding him in death were his father and brother, Dean Butcher.
Survivors include his mother, Nell Hooker of Arlington; and three children, Steven Howard Butcher, II of Fort Worth and Alyssa Lyn Butcher and Skylar Reanna Butcher, both of Kennedale.
