Susan Faye (Reed) Kirkbride

Susan F. Kirkbride (Reed) of Hillsboro was born in Charleston, South Carolina on March 7, 1960. The Lord Jesus called her to her eternal home on August 23, 2024. Susan was the only daughter of Robert Reed and Joan Reed (Benton) and sister to Ralph, John, and James Andrew (Andy). The family lived in South Carolina and California before settling in Moriarty, New Mexico in 1973. She married Carl Kirkbride on August 11, 1979, in Tijeras, New Mexico. They had five children: Carl (Arty), Jr., Christopher, Jason, Shawn, and Angelica. She was a volunteer firefighter for the Torrance County Volunteer Fire Department in Moriarty. She was also a skilled baker, cake decorator, and a small business owner. Whatever activity she engaged in, she accomplished with passion, even ensuring her family was involved. Susan moved to Hillsboro in 2022 to be close to family. She attended First Baptist Church in Hillsboro where she participated in bible studies and church activities. Susan loved to do crafts, such as diamond paintings and she enjoyed watching classic television shows. She loved to watch CBN and was dedicated to their ministry.

Susan was preceded in death by her brother, Ralph; parents, Robert and Joan Reed; and two beloved sons, Arty and Christopher.

She is survived by her brothers, John Reed (Ruth) of Hillsboro and Andy Reed (Kay) of Estancia, NM; son, Jason Kirkbride (Kari) of Moriarty, NM; son, Shawn Kirkbride (Miriam) of Cleveland, TX; and daughter;  Angelica (Sean) Blackshear of New Caney, TX; grandchildren include, Jason Kirkbride Jr. (fiance, Mollie Wechsler), Jordan Blackshear, Joan Kirkbride (fiance, Trevor Yancy), Leeroy Kirkbride, Bobby Kirkbride, Nathanael Blackshear, Thomas Blackshear, Lily Kirkbride, Man Fai Kirkbride, Samuel Kirkbride, Elsie Kirkbride, William Kirkbride, and Virginia Kirkbride; and nephew, Chris Gafford of Hillsboro, TX.

A memorial service will be held in celebration of Susan’s life at First Baptist Church in Hillsboro on Saturday, September 7 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a charitable donation to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, an organization close to Susan’s heart. The most important thing to know about Susan is that she dearly loved Jesus Christ. She clung to her faith in the most trying of times and sought refuge in Him daily. And now she will rest in His arms for eternity.
