Sylvia (Ferrell) Gidley

Sylvia Gidley, 89, of Hillsboro entered Heaven’s gates on Sunday, December 6, 2020, at Providence Health Care Center in Waco.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 9, 2020, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. Paul Clark officiating.  Burial will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory.  Mrs. Gidley will lie in state from 2:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 8, at the funeral home.  Face masks and social distancing are required.  Funeral services will be live streamed via Marshall & Marshall's Facebook page.

Sylvia was born in Salado on February 13, 1931, to Ruth and Herman Ferrell, their only child.  She grew up in Salado and at the age of 15 married Roland Gidley on January 11, 1947.  In 1953, the couple moved to Hillsboro along with their two children, Judy and Ronnie.

She loved going fishing, reading, and playing games with her family.  She especially loved a mean game of Scrabble.  Sylvia enjoyed traveling and seeing new places.  She was a long-time member of Walnut Street Baptist Church, where she was actively participating in the congregation and Sunday School class.  She loved her church family and Jesus.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Roland; grandson, Douglas Head; and parents, Ruth and Herman Ferrell.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Kent Head of Hillsboro; and son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Rhonda Gidley of Bryan.  She was always known as Nanny by her grandchildren, Shannon Gross and husband, Curtis, of Waco, Kim Story and husband, Scott, of College Station, and Brian Gidley and wife, Kara, of College Station;  She also is loved by her eleven great-grandchildren, Preston, Dakota, Lainie, Rachel, Makenzie, Mason, Hudson, Emery, Addyson, Brooklyn, and Caitlyn; and three great-great grandchildren, Aiden, Olivia, and Elijah.
