Thurman Akin

Thurman Earl Akin, 74, of Hillsboro went to be with the Lord Sunday evening, June 24, 2018, at his residence. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 28, 2018, at Peoria Cemetery with Rev. Rick Gobert of Cedar Creek Baptist Church officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.

Born March 11, 1944, in McKinney, he was the son of Leaton and Mary Lou (Smith) Akin. On August 26, 1978, he married Yvonne Martin and they raised seven children. Thurman was an avid fisherman and he loved to take care of his garden. Before his retirement, he had his own remodeling company. Thurman was a loving husband and father all of his life and he never met a stranger.

Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers, and five sisters.

Survivors include his wife of almost 40 years, Yvonne Akin of Hillsboro; their children and spouses, Jimmy & Vicky Allen of Ferris, Donnie Allen and Del Allen, both of Hillsboro, Rodney Cole of Waelder, Jeff & Jeanna Desborough of Wichita Falls, Chris & Tina Handrick of Lincoln, and Danny & Emma Cole of Hillsboro; sister, Sue Weems of Sherman; 19 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
