Tom Gardner Fowler

Our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Tom Fowler, passed away on Wednesday, November 25, 2020, from complications of Parkinson’s disease.

Tom was born September 9, 1940, in Amarillo, Texas to parents Marie and Ewell Fowler.  He spent his childhood, along with sister Ethel Marie, growing up in Charleston, Illinois.  He graduated from Charleston High School and Eastern Illinois University.

Tom met his future bride, Judith Seddelmeyer, on a blind date set up by his sister.  She thought they would make a good match since Tom and Judy were both so tall.  They married on July 20, 1963, in Ft. Wayne, Indiana and headed back to Texas as soon as they could.  Their first two children, Leslie and Andrew, were born in Dallas.  A few years were then spent in California, where their third child, Stuart, was born.  Tom’s career, spent in the early days of computer programming, brought them back to Texas again.  They eventually settled in Hillsboro, Texas in 1979.

Upon marrying Judy, Tom joined the Lutheran church and was a faithful member his entire adult life.  He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Hillsboro for over 40 years.

In addition to his family, Tom’s great loves included anything with wheels, especially trains, classic cars, and racing cars.  He was passionate about reading – but it had to be non-fiction and preferably about history.  He loved all sports, and was always in the stands for his children’s sporting events.  He and Judy joked that they would never miss a church service on Sunday morning, unless it was Indy 500 or Daytona 500 weekend.

Tom is survived by his wife of 57 years, Judy; his three children and their spouses, Leslie and John Brittain, Andrew and Dora Fowler, and Stuart and Katherine Fowler; and his grandchildren Sam and Chandler Brittain, Paul Brittain, Katherine Fowler, and Ethan Fowler.

Because of the current COVID situation, a memorial service will be held at a later date.  The family requests that memorial donations may be made to:  Christ Lutheran Church, 915 Corsicana Hwy., Hillsboro, TX 76645.
