Tomasa Garcia

Tomasa Garcia, 62, of Whitney, passed away on March 5, 2019. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 8, 2019, at Whitney Memorial Park under the direction of Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors of Whitney. A visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Tomasa was born into a very humble family on November 11, 1956, in San Luis de la Paz, Mexico, the daughter of Joaquin and Feliza (Rivera) Garcia. She was united in marriage to Cruz Ortiz on November 7, 1973, at a very young age and they had seven children, 4 girls and 3 boys.

A very strong-willed, hard working woman, Tomasa was very dedicated to caring and providing for her family, always wanting to keep her family together until she breathed her last breath.
She enjoyed going to the casinos and taking road trips with her family. She was a homemaker and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of the Assumption in West.

Preceding her in death were her parents and a sister, Agustina Garcia.

Survivors include her husband, Cruz Ortiz; her children, Maria Herrera and husband, Martin, Roque Ortiz, José C. Ortiz and wife, Juana, José R. Ortiz, Imelda Ortiz, Maria Ortiz, and Elisa Ortiz; seven grandchildren, Jorge Herrera, Ayden Ortiz, Christian Ortiz, Jonathan Salazar, Jimena Ortiz, Yaneli Ortiz, and Crystal Olvera; brothers, Jesus Garcia, Ernesto Garcia, and Sebastian Garcia; and sisters, Sara Cruz, Paula Bustos and Maria Martinez.
