Tommy Athey

Thomas Wayne Athey died peacefully January 2, 2024, at the family home in Whitney, Texas. Graveside services will take place at 2:00pm, Friday, January 5, 2024, at New Woodbury Cemetery, visitation will take place preceding the service, from 1:00 to 2:00 at the cemetery.

He was born in Grand Prairie, Texas, July 16, 1965, to Gerald and Barbara (Barham) Athey. Tommy was a strong man of faith and worshipped with the Bethel Bible Church.

He worked for the Ford Dealership in Hillsboro for nearly fifteen years and loved the people with whom he worked as well as the customers he served. Throughout his battle with cancer, his coworkers continuously showered him with love and support, for which the family will be forever grateful. An avid sports fan, Tommy was always rooting for the Rangers and the Cowboys. He spent as many weekends as he could playing golf with friends.

Tommy is preceded in death by his mother, Barbara; his grandparents, Joe and Dorothy Kuyawa and Granville and Louise Barham; and his uncle, Edward (Sonny) Athey. He is survived by his father, Gerald; his aunts and uncle, Shirlyn Athey, and Mark and Nancy Schusler and nine first cousins with whom he was close.

The family would like to express appreciation to Gentiva Hospice, especially his nurse, Christy.
