Tommy Davis

Tommy Joe Davis, 75, of Hillsboro, passed away on Friday, October 21, 2016 at his home. A Memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at the Marshall and Marshall Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. Reed Justus officiating.

Tommy Joe was born in Hillsboro on July 26, 1941 to Oscar and Annette (Grizzle) Davis. Tommy Joe grew up in Hillsboro and graduated from Hillsboro High School. After school, he went to work for the Texas Highway Department and later for Lone Star Gas. On November 21, 1966, he married Linda Hoffman in Malone and she preceded him in death on October 4, 2011. He was elected Hill County Tax Assessor Collector and took office on February 1, 1973 and served in that capacity until his retirement on December 31, 2003–the longest tenure of an elected official in Hill County History. Hunting and fishing were some of his favorite pastimes and he was also interested in motorcycles and old cars. He and Linda enjoyed taking cruises and camping. He also owned a photography business for a while.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Hillsboro, served on the Hill County Appraisal Board, Lions Club, and was a consultant of McCreary, Veselka, Braggs, and Allen, P.C.

Tommy Joe is survived by his son, Brent Davis and wife, Rebecca of Frisco; five grandchildren, Trysta, Michael, Cassi, Katherine, and Noah Davis; four great-grandchildren, Ashtin, Allie, Alex and Hannah; sister, Nan Morgan of Meridian; nephews, Billy Morgan,Jr. and Shane Morgan; niece, Bridget Morgan; niece, Leigh Ann Lyon and husband, Jeff of Hillsboro; and sister-in-law, Georgia Ann Little of Hillsboro. He was godfather to his great-nephew, Sgt. Jaryd T. Lyon, and great-niece, Kendyl Lyon.
