Tressie Cox

Tressie Cox, 87, of Dallas, died Thursday, September 29, 2005, at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas. Tressie was born October 2, 1917 in Hillsboro the daughter of Clarence Rutherford and Laura Melissa Davis King. She grew up in Hill County and graduated from Abbott High School, where she excelled in basketball. On August 28, 1937 she married John Tom Cox in West. They lived in Ohio and California while John was in the Army. When he went overseas, she moved back to West. They bought a farm in Vaughan and farmed about forty years when they moved to Hillsboro after retiring in 1992. She was a member of the West Side Church of Christ and in her later years was a member of College Hill Church of Christ in Hillsboro. A wonderful seamstress who kept her daughters and grandchildren in beautiful clothes, she also enjoyed crafting and sold many of her items in craft shows. She spent much of her leisure time working crossword puzzles. She spent the last 3 years in an Alzheimer?s care unit in Dallas. Tressie was a wonderful mother and grandmother who will be missed by all she left behind. Her loved ones are greatly comforted knowing she is with Jesus and her beloved husband. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; and brothers and sisters, Ray King, Julious King, Adrian King, Clarence Marion King, Goldie Dudley, and Etta Gregory. Survivors include her daughters, Sherry Kennedy and husband, Gary, of College Station and Donna Fritz and husband, Frank, of Rockwall; grandchildren, Kevin Kennedy and Brad Kennedy both of Plano, Adam Fritz of Rockwall, and Tressie Fritz of Rockwall; sisters, Opal Morgan of Hillsboro and Miriam Williamson of Austin; brother-in-law & sister-in-law, Willie & Gerleen Vochoska of West; sister-in-law, Edna King of Lake Jackson, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
