Trevor Cain Smith

Trevor Cain Smith of Carrollton, formerly of Brandon, Texas, departed his earthly life on Tuesday, August 3, 2021, in Carrollton.  He was 24.  A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 14th, at 1 p.m. at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro with Mr. Kelby Williams officiating.  A visitation will be held at Marshall and Marshall on Friday evening, August 13th, from 5 to 8 p.m.  A private graveside service will be held prior to the memorial service at the Brandon Cemetery where Trevor will rest beside generations of family.

Trevor was born October 22, 1996, in Vologda, located in northwest Russia.  He was adopted in December 1998 at the age of 26-months and was a welcomed blessing and answered prayers for parents and family who brought him to his new home outside of Brandon.   In 2001, Trevor’s parents added to their joy with the adoption of Kaitlyn Elizabeth, born in Romania and almost four-years-old.  Kaitlyn was eight-months younger than her big brother and her arrival completed the family and forged a strong and loving bond between brother and sister that would remain throughout their years together.

Trevor attended elementary school at West ISD through fifth grade where his mother taught school.  There, he was especially fond of his fifth-grade teacher, Chanda Taylor.  He would transfer to Whitney ISD where he attended through eighth grade.  In school Trevor loved art and displayed considerable talents with his detailed pencil sketches of fishing and wildlife.  Trevor completed his education at Mart ISD where his mother also taught for many years.  There, Trevor played football with the Mart Panthers. He graduated from Mart High School in 2015.

From elementary through high school, Trevor’s teachers would speak of his creativity, potential, and humorous spirit.  He entertained family and friends alike with his gifted story-telling and contagious smile.  He was loved by friends and contemporaries for his wit and humor.  Adults found him polite and respectful.  Away from school, Trevor loved the outdoors, particularly fishing and spending time with his beloved dog, Nila.  Sister Kaitlyn says her brother was “absolutely happiest when he was fishing.”  His search for the perfect fishing spot might find him close to home or traveling out of state or to the Texas coast.

Trevor attended Texas State Technical College in Waco following graduation from high school.  He had been an employee five years at ProTek Innovations, a roofing company in Dallas.  There he made many friends who considered him family.  Fellow employees described him as “an amazing young man, a hard worker, a good listener and someone who could always be counted on.”  Co-workers said he was always willing to learn, excelled in his job, was dependable and anxious to better himself and his career.

Trevor was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Betty Nutt; paternal grandparents, Walton and Nona Smith; cousin, Jordan Cauley; and uncle, Jay Clement.  Trevor is survived by his mother, Kimberly Nutt Smith of Valley Mills; his father, Monty Preston Smith of Brandon; his sister, Kaitlyn Elizabeth Smith, of Carrolton; maternal grandfather, Hubert B. Nutt, Jr., of Valley Mills; one uncle, Lynn Smith and wife, Patty, of Arlington; and aunts Elisa (Nutt) Campbell and husband James of Laguna Park, Renee' (Nutt) Cauley and husband Pat of Laguna Park, and Robin Clement, of Hurst, and fiancé John Hancock.

Others left to cherish Trevor’s memory are cousins Owen Cauley of Laguna Park, Riley Cauley of Arkansas, Hannah Cauley and wife Ashley of Dallas, Justin Clement of Arlington, Tim and wife Carrie Clement and children Cameron and Charlotte Grace of Hurst, and Laura Smith of Arlington, and a host of extended family and friends.

Trevor, though his years were short in number, left a lasting impression on every life he touched through his kindness, wit, and generous smile.  His sweet spirit lives on in the grateful hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Trevor was a member of First Baptist Church of Hillsboro, where he was baptized as a youth.  Those who loved him are reminded of these words from John 16:22, “So now is your time of grief, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.”

In lieu of flowers, donations to help defray arrangements should be made to a GoFundMe Memorial Fund for Trevor Smith established by his work family at ProTek Innovations.  Memorials may also be made to the Suicide & Crisis Center of North Texas, 2808 Swiss Avenue, Dallas, TX 75204; a memorial fund set-up at Citizens National Bank, P. O. Box 404, Hillsboro, TX 76645; or charity of one’s choice.
