Troy Dees

Troy Dees, 63, of Whitney, passed away on October 4, 2015 in Hillsboro. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, October 7, 2015, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney with Dr. Allan Lane of Fort Graham Baptist Church, officiating. A visitation will be held from 5-7 PM, on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at the funeral home. A private burial will be held later in Richland, Texas.

Troy was born on September 17, 1952, in Dallas, to Maude (Corcoran) and Sexton Troy Dees. He was the youngest of three children and proud to be his mama’s “baby”. Troy grew up in Dallas and had many fond stories of the trouble he used to get into there, along with the “all this used to be dirt” stories. He joined the Navy and traveled the world, but when he returned, he eventually settled in Whitney where he lived the rest of his life.

A lover of all sports, Troy had a special fondness for the Dallas Cowboys, even whey they disappointed him. He also liked college football, but had to walk a fine line as he somehow raised a Sooner, an Aggie and a Longhorn. Troy was careful not to seem partial to any team, although we all secretly knew who he really rooted for. He also enjoyed going to the high school championships with his son, Ryan. Another joy in life was motor sports of all kinds, but especially dirt track racing. He enjoyed going to Prairie Hill and loved participating when his son, Cameron, was racing.

Living on Lake Whitney, water sports were also a given, and during the summer, the lake was where the family spent most of their time. Troy also had a secret fondness for musical theater and frequently asked his daughter, Shay, when Phantom of the Opera was coming back to Dallas. Perhaps it was not the activities themselves that Troy loved, but spending time with his children, as they were the most important part of his life, and he made sure they knew that.

Troy is joining his mother and father, along with his brother, Willie, all who preceded him in death.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his children, Ryan Powell of Burleson, Cameron Dees and wife, BreAnn of Longview, recently of Whitney, and Shay Dees of Troy. He also leaves his cherished granddaughter, Peyton; his sister, Mary Faggart of Mesquite; a niece, Mary Alice Massey of Mesquite; four nephews, John Glover of Whitney, Jackie Glover of Mesquite, Bruce Glover of Whitney, and Daniel Glover of Mesquite; several great-nieces and nephews and friends; along with his beloved four legged companions and granddogs.

Memorials may be made to Hill County Paw Pals, P.O. Box 1533, Hillsboro, TX 76645.
