Turner Hennig, 50, of Hillsboro passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday morning, August 13, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 16, 2014, at First United Methodist Church in Hillsboro. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, August 15, 2014, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.
Turner was born in Whitney on September 15, 1963 to John and Patsy Hennig. In 1982, he graduated from Hillsboro High School and then earned an Associates Degree from Hill College in 1984. The following year, Turner married Jill Russell at First United Methodist Church on June 1, in Hillsboro.
Turner worked hard every day of his life, starting at age 15 working for a local Texaco station. Following school, he began and ended his professional working career in construction, working with his wife’s family at Russell Construction. He most recently served as Commercial Construction Superintendent for the firm. In between those times, he also served as production manager for both Campbell’s Fresh Mushrooms and at Oakwood Homes in Hillsboro. In May of 2001, he revealed other talents with the opening of Circle H Smokehouse which he owned and operated for a number of years. Many people still remember his delicious barbeque.
A member of First United Methodist Church, he was very active on church committees and boards. In addition, he served for several years on the Board of Brandon-Irene Water Supply. Kids were extremely important to Turner. For 18 years, he coached girls softball, always striving to make sure that every child knew that they were special and felt their individual worth. He also served as Livestock Superintendent for the Hill County Fair, again sharing his time and abilities for the kids.
Preceding him in death were his father-in-law, Bill Russell and brother-in-law, Rick Russell. His survivors include his loving wife of 29 years, Jill Hennig, of Hillsboro; two daughters, Jaron Trout and husband, Matt, of Colorado Springs, CO and Jade Hennig of Hillsboro; parents, John and Patsy Hennig of Hillsboro; brother, John Hennig and wife, Grace, of Whitney; sister, Jennifer Register and husband, Glen, of Hillsboro; mother-in-law, Beth Russell Richcreek of Hillsboro; brother-in-law, David Russell and wife, Jan, of Hillsboro; sister-in-law, Janice Russell, of West; and nephews and nieces, Scott Hennig, Savannah Register, Fisher Hennig, Brayden Hennig, Sophie Hennig, Jaime Doyle, Jacy Russell, and Jordyn Russell.
